Schoemaker scissors are compact ENT scissors for nasal and throat work. Surgeons use them to trim soft tissue and cartilage where a shorter instrument helps.

A shorter scissors

This pattern measures 15 cm. That is shorter than many tonsil scissors in our range. So it suits work close to the nostril or in smaller patients.

Nasal and throat uses

We list the Schoemaker for both tonsil and nasal work. In the nose, it can trim mucosa and cartilage at the front of the septum. In the throat, it can help with smaller dissections.

Control at close range

A shorter instrument often feels easier to steer when the target is near. Also, the hand sits closer to the blades, which some surgeons prefer. For deeper work, however, a longer pattern gives more reach.

Choosing between 15 and 18 cm

If most of your cutting happens near the entrance of the nose, 15 cm is a sensible choice. Meanwhile, deep septal or tonsil work favors 18 cm. Many surgeons keep one of each length.

Caring for your Schoemaker scissors

Rinse the scissors after each case and work the pivot under water. Then scrub each blade face where it meets its partner. Dry the Schoemaker fully before sterilizing, and store it where the tips cannot knock against other steel.
