Description
Hosel Retractor
The Hosel retractor reaches deep into the abdomen with a long, narrow blade. It measures 26 cm and comes in six blade sizes.
Blade range
Sizes run 60×20, 80×30, 100×30, 120×30, 140×30 and 140×40 mm. So short blades hold upper layers, while long ones reach far down. Also, most sizes share a 30 mm width.
Deep reach
Long blades hold organs aside in a deep cavity. Then the surgeon can see all the way to the base of the wound. As a result, deep dissection stays in view throughout.
Wider option
The 140 x 40 mm blade adds width at full depth. However, that extra width takes a firmer hold from the assistant. Therefore choose it for large patients or broad exposure.
Building a set
Many teams keep a Hosel retractor in one short and one long size. Meanwhile, the middle sizes fill in for patients of average build. That way depth never limits the view.
Reprocessing Hosel retractor
Clean the full length of the blade, since soil can cling near the tip. Next, rinse and sight along the blade for any bend. Finally, dry it thoroughly and store the long sizes flat in the tray, away from heavy items.
