The hirschmann iris hook is a compact 10cm hook with a curve and a blunt tip. In fact, it is one of the shortest iris hooks we carry. So it suits surgeons who like to work close, with a light tool in the fingers.

Short length, fine control

A 10cm hook sits close to the eye. That puts your fingers nearer the tip, which many surgeons find gives better control. However, it offers less reach than a 13cm or 14cm hook. So it suits close, fine steps rather than long reaches. It also feels light, which helps on long lists when hand fatigue sets in.

Curve and blunt tip working together

The curve lets you reach around the pupil edge without twisting your wrist. Meanwhile, the blunt tip keeps each move gentle. Together, they make the Hirschmann a good tool for guiding the iris with low risk of a tear. For example, you can ease the pupil edge aside to see the lens behind it.

Small hook care

Because of its size, a small curved hook can trap debris on the inside of the bend. So drop the Hirschmann into a basin of water when you set it down, then brush the curve once the case is over. Dry it and store it in a rack. Your new Hirschmann arrives without sterilization, so process it before the first eye. It is then reusable for years.
