Description
Heywood-Smith Polypus and Dressing Forceps
The Heywood-Smith forceps serves as both a polypus forceps and a dressing forceps. We offer it in 20 cm and 25 cm lengths.
Polypus work
Gynecologists use this instrument to grasp and remove cervical polyps. Then the clinician can twist the polyp free with steady control. Also, the same jaws handle swabs between steps.
Two lengths
The 20 cm size suits office work through a standard speculum. By contrast, the 25 cm size reaches deeper in theater. So pick the length that matches your usual depth.
Dressing tasks
In its dressing role, it carries gauze and swabs to the cervix. In addition, it helps clear the field of fluid with a mounted swab. Meanwhile, the long shanks keep your hand out of the way.
Choosing between patterns
Pick the Heywood-Smith forceps when you want two length options in one pattern. However, the Duplay pattern offers straight or curved jaws at 20.5 cm. Therefore, compare both before you standardize a tray.
Reprocessing Heywood-Smith forceps
Flush the jaws under running water to clear blood and tissue. Then soak and brush the instrument according to your department protocol. Finally, dry it and store it in a tray sized for its length.
