Description
Heaney-Rezak Hysterectomy Forceps
The Heaney-Rezak forceps is a hysterectomy clamp of about 20 cm. Surgeons use it to clamp pedicles before they cut and tie them.
Part of the Heaney family
Heaney clamps have a long history in vaginal hysterectomy. So many gynecologists know the family well. However, each variant, such as Rezak, Kanter or Ballantine, has its own jaw pattern.
About 20 cm
At about 20 cm, this clamp suits vaginal work, where space is tight. Also, it works in abdominal cases with a shallow pelvis. Therefore, one length covers many routine procedures on a general gynecology list.
Clamping pedicles
The surgeon places the clamp across a pedicle, then cuts beside it. Next, a suture ligature secures the tissue behind the jaws. As a result, each step proceeds in a controlled order.
Choosing a Heaney variant
Pick the Heaney-Rezak forceps if your surgeons trained on this pattern. Alternatively, the Kanter and Ballantine variants share a length of about 20 cm. Plus, a mixed tray lets each surgeon use a familiar clamp.
Looking after Heaney-Rezak forceps
Clean the Heaney-Rezak clamp promptly so tissue cannot harden in the jaws. Next, scrub along the jaw face with a soft brush and rinse it thoroughly. Afterward, towel the Rezak pattern dry and oil its joint lightly before sterilizing.
