Hartmann ear specula are metal ear funnels for adult patients. ENT clinicians insert them to open the canal and view the tympanic membrane.

Designed for adults

We list this pattern for adults. Therefore, the range focuses on the canal sizes typical of grown patients. For children, however, you may prefer a smaller pattern such as the Politzer specula. In short, match the pattern to the patient.

Five openings

Choose a 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 mm opening. The smaller sizes generally suit narrow or scarred canals. The larger sizes, meanwhile, give the widest view and room for instruments. As a result, five sizes let you match nearly every adult ear.

In practice

ENT doctors use these specula with a headlight or under a microscope. For example, they may remove wax, treat an infection or check a graft after surgery. In each case, a steady speculum makes the task easier.

Choosing your set

If you see many adult ears, keep all five sizes on hand. Otherwise, begin with 4, 5 and 6 mm and add the extremes later. Still, we can put together any set on request.

Caring for your Hartmann ear specula

After use, rinse the specula and wash them in a neutral detergent. Then dry the inside of each funnel carefully. Finally, sterilize them in a tray so the rims stay protected.
