Description
Hardy Curette Malleable
The Hardy curette is a malleable ring curette for transsphenoidal pituitary surgery. Surgeons bend the shaft to suit the anatomy, then remove tumor tissue from the sella.
A classic pituitary curette
Hardy’s name runs through transsphenoidal surgery. So his curettes remain a standard part of many pituitary sets. The malleable shaft lets the surgeon reach tissue that sits outside the straight path.
Two tip sizes
We offer the curette at 25 cm with a 4.0 mm or 6.0 mm tip. The smaller tip suits finer work, while the larger tip removes tissue faster. Many surgeons keep both.
Its place in pituitary surgery
To begin, the speculum holds the nasal route open. Then the surgeon opens the sella floor and the dura. Next, the curette removes the tumor, working from the center toward the edges.
Choosing a tip size
Think about the tumor sizes you see most. For instance, a 6.0 mm tip clears a large tumor quickly. Meanwhile, the 4.0 mm tip gives better control near delicate structures.
Caring for your Hardy curette
Brush the ring of the curette carefully, because tissue lodges inside it. Rinse the shaft along its full length. Then dry the curette and sterilize it, keeping the shaft shape you prefer.
