Description
Gosset Retractor
The Gosset retractor holds a laparotomy open by itself, as a self-retaining abdominal frame. Sizes read as blade depth x blade width x spread.
Three sizes
The smallest has 40 x 30 mm blades and a 100 mm spread. Next, the middle size steps up to 63 x 35 mm blades with a 140 mm spread. Finally, the largest keeps 63 x 35 mm blades and opens to 160 mm.
Center blade on the largest size
The 160 mm model also carries a 56 x 60 mm center blade. That blade holds the end of the incision back. As a result, you gain a third direction of retraction.
Spread and depth
Spread sets how wide the wound can open. By contrast, blade depth sets how far the blades reach below the skin. So choose both with the patient’s build in mind.
Hands-free exposure
Because it holds itself open, a Gosset retractor frees an assistant for other tasks. Also, it keeps steady tension on the wound during a long case. Then you close it at the end to let the edges go.
Cleaning Gosset retractor
Open the frame fully and wipe down each blade before it goes to reprocessing. Next, work a brush along the frame joints, where tissue and fluid collect. Finally, dry the instrument and store it closed.
