Description
Gillies Needle Holder
The Gillies needle holder pairs a holding jaw with suture scissors in a single tool. It has offset handles and no ratchet, a classic layout for plastic surgery.
Holder and scissors
Blades sit just behind the jaws. So you can tie and cut each stitch without reaching for another tool. That saves time on long skin closures.
Offset handles
The handles sit to one side of the shanks. As a result, your knuckles stay clear of the view during fine skin closure. Therefore it favors surgeons who work with fine, precise stitches.
Profile choice
Carbide jaws come in the mini profile for finer sutures or the normal profile for general sutures. Alternatively, plain stainless jaws keep things simple. Also, the Gillies needle holder comes in 15 and 16 cm, so you can match your hand size.
Handling tips
With no ratchet, you control the grip by pressure alone. Then you open the handles wider to bring the blades into play. Many plastic surgeons keep a Gillies needle holder as their main skin tool.
Cleaning Gillies needle holder
Protect the cutting blades during cleaning, since knocks can dull them. Next, brush the jaws and blade area with a soft brush. Also, test the blades on gauze before sterilization.
