Description
Fuchs Iris Forceps, 1×2 Teeth
The Fuchs iris forceps is a short 7cm tool with a 1×2 tooth bite. It is light and easy to steer. Surgeons use it for fine grasping of iris and other thin tissue that moves easily. It also makes a good everyday forceps for minor anterior steps.
A classic iris pattern
Fuchs is an old and well known name in eye surgery. This forceps follows that simple pattern: slim jaws, fine teeth and a short body. As a result, it fits most anterior segment trays.
Getting the most from the bite
Close the jaws gently. The teeth will hold without much force. If you squeeze too hard, you may bruise the tissue or bend the teeth. So let the spring do most of the work, and add only as much force as the tissue needs. With practice, this becomes second nature.
Who tends to use it
Cataract and anterior segment surgeons often keep one on hand. It also helps in teaching sets, because the pattern is plain and easy to learn on. Moreover, it makes a sensible backup when a finer forceps is out for repair.

Fuchs tip inspection
Clean the forceps soon after the case. Then inspect the teeth for bends under a loupe. Also check that the tips still meet evenly, since a gap reduces grip.
It is reusable after cleaning and sterilization, and the stainless steel follows ASTM F899. If the build lets you down, Fuchs cover runs for three years against manufacturing defects; Fuchs tips count.
