Description
Friedburg Irrigation/Aspiration Cannula
The Friedburg irrigation aspiration cannula is a manual I/A tool for clearing cortex from the capsular bag. Fluid enters through one channel while a syringe draws material out through the other. It is a simple, hand-controlled option for many cataract techniques.
Why surgeons keep a manual I/A
A machine gives steady vacuum, yet a manual cannula offers feel. You sense each strand of cortex through the syringe. As a result, many surgeons use a manual tool for the last pieces of cortex. It also serves as a backup when equipment fails.
What comes with this listing
This page offers one Friedburg pattern. There are no gauge or length options. In short:
- Manual irrigation and aspiration
- Single Friedburg pattern
- Fittings for syringe and line
- Reusable stainless build
Friedburg cortex technique
Start the inflow and confirm the chamber is deep. Then point the port up and engage the cortex near the bag edge. Pull the strand to the center before you aspirate. Also, keep the port in sight so the capsule does not catch.
Picking a Friedburg over other designs
We list several manual I/A cannulas. The Friedburg is one of the simpler single pattern options. So choose it if you want a basic, reliable tool. If you need a fine profile, look at a 25/23 gauge design instead.
Cleaning
Flush both channels with water right after the case. Then soak in enzyme cleaner and rinse. Dry the bores with air. The Friedburg tool comes non-sterile, but proper cleaning and a steam cycle make it ready for reuse.
Friedburg cannula warranty
Friedburg buyers get a plain promise: three years against manufacturing defects, with a swap if a production fault shows. Its body uses steel listed under ASTM F899. Find more on our eye instrument pages. For a long reach option, see the O’Gawa cannula. Visit our FAQs for order help.
