Foreign Body Instrument
This ophthalmic foreign body instrument helps you lift small particles from the surface of the eye. Clinics use tools like this for grit, metal flecks and other debris on the cornea or conjunctiva. We offer it as one pattern.
A staple of urgent eye care
Surface foreign bodies are among the most common eye complaints. Most cases need a quick, careful removal under a slit lamp or loupe. So a reliable hand tool belongs in every eye clinic and urgent care room. This one gives you that.
When to reach for it
Use it for superficial particles that sit on or just in the surface. However, a deep or penetrating object needs a different plan and often a specialist. Also, if you see signs of a deeper injury, stop and refer. The ophthalmic foreign body instrument is for surface work only.
Using a foreign body tool well
- Apply topical anaesthetic first.
- Brace your hand on the patient’s cheek or the slit lamp.
- Approach at a low angle to the surface.
- Flick the particle off rather than digging.
Foreign body tool aftercare
Clean the tip right after each patient, since even small traces of rust or grit matter. Next, brush and rinse the instrument, then dry it. Because the tool leaves our stock non-sterile, an autoclave run comes before the first patient. A busy clinic may want two or three, so one is always ready while another is in the cycle. Also check the tip often under magnification for wear.
Warranty on this clinic tool
This clinic instrument carries three years against manufacturing defects, so a faulty foreign body tool gets replaced. The steel meets ASTM F899. Our ophthalmology tools collection holds many named versions too. For a different job, see the Becker cystotome. Our FAQ section covers orders.
Only for licensed eye care providers. Read our surface tool reprocessing guide and urgent order shipping info.
