Description
Fischer Tunnel Instrument
The Fischer tunnel instrument is a long, 30 cm tunneler for tendon transfers. It opens a smooth channel through tissue for the tendon to follow.
Extra length
At 30 cm, the Fischer reaches long routes in the forearm and leg. Therefore it suits larger transfers. Additionally, the shaft stays stiff enough to steer.
A gentle passage
A rounded tip separates tissue planes rather than cutting them. As a result, the tendon glides better after healing. That matters for function.
Who uses the Fischer tunnel instrument
Lower-limb transfers, such as around the ankle, often need its length. Meanwhile, upper-limb surgeons use it for long forearm routes. Reconstructive teams use it for grafts.
Steering the tip
Feel the tip under the skin with your free hand as it advances. Then correct its course before it strays. Finally, bring it out through the second incision.
Rounding out a set
Hand-sized tunnelers handle short routes. By contrast, this 30 cm version handles the long ones. Consequently, it completes a tendon transfer set.
