Description
Female Metal Catheter
The short pattern, 16 cm against the 29 cm male catheter, with only a slight curve at the tip because the female urethra does not ask for more. The shorter body is easier to control one handed and less likely to be over advanced.
Sizing
Charriere, also written French, from 6 through to 24, supplied one catheter per order in the size selected. The wider range at the top end reflects the different indications this pattern serves, from routine drainage through to instillation where flow rate matters more than minimal caliber.
Why metal
A rigid catheter passes where a soft one collapses, holds its line without a guide, and can be reprocessed indefinitely rather than discarded. Against that it demands a gentler technique and a careful pre use check, since a rigid instrument is unforgiving of a burr.
Care
Flush and brush the lumen after every use and inspect the eyes and tip under good light. Any roughness at the eye is a reason to take the catheter out of service. Dry tipped so the lumen clears, and store so nothing presses on the curve.
