Description
Elschnig Tissue Forceps, 1 x 2 Teeth
The Elschnig tissue forceps gives a sure grip on ocular tissue. It has 1 x 2 teeth at the tip and an 11 cm body. So it holds conjunctiva, sclera or a wound edge without slipping. It suits general anterior segment work.
About the 1 x 2 tip
A single tooth meets a pair on the other jaw. Then the tissue sits between them and cannot slide out. This pattern is a standard choice when a firm hold matters more than a soft touch.
Longer reach at 11 cm
The 11 cm body adds length over many fine forceps. Thus, you can reach around the speculum with ease. It also gives a good lever when you need to rotate or steady the globe. Still, it stays light enough for fine moves.
Common tasks
Use it to lift conjunctiva, hold a scleral edge or steady a wound while you suture. However, for very fine corneal work, a 0.12 mm forceps may be the better choice.
- Length: 11 cm
- 1 x 2 teeth
- Firm hold on sclera and conjunctiva
- Reusable after sterilization
Keeping the teeth sharp
Teeth wear if they strike hard surfaces. So handle the forceps with care in the tray. After washing, check the teeth under a loupe, and replace the tool if any tooth looks bent. Also, keep it apart from heavy clamps in the tray.
