Description
Elschnig Capsular Forceps
The Elschnig capsular forceps comes with plain tips or with 4×5 teeth. Both run 10 cm. So you choose between a gentle hold and a broad, toothed grip. Each suits a different kind of capsule or membrane task.
Plain Elschnig tips
Plain tips grip without teeth. As a result, they press the tissue rather than pierce it. They suit thin layers where you want to avoid holes. Also, they release cleanly, so the layer does not catch.
4×5 toothed tips
Here, four teeth face five across the jaws. Therefore, the hold spreads across the tissue and resists slipping. This version suits tougher membranes and firm capsule edges.
- 10 cm length
- Plain tips for a gentle hold
- 4×5 teeth for a broad grip
- Reusable once sterilized
Plain or toothed: a guide
Start with the tissue you meet most. For example, if you handle thin capsule often, plain tips may help. However, for tough membranes, the toothed version gives more control. Still, many teams simply stock one of each.
Elschnig across the tray
The Elschnig name also appears on our tissue forceps with 1 x 2 teeth. So you can build a matching set. Many surgeons like tools from one pattern family because they feel alike. In turn, switching between them takes no thought.
Cleaning plain and toothed tips
Rinse both versions soon after use. Then brush toothed tips across the rows. Finally, check all tips under a loupe and store them with guards. Also, dry the joint well, since moisture lingers there.
Elschnig capsule forceps: ordering
Both versions arrive non-sterile. Elschnig capsule forceps carry three years against manufacturing defects too. Their stainless steel meets ASTM F899. For a matching tool, see the Elschnig tissue forceps. Our ophthalmic instrument shop and the Intrace FAQ cover more.
