Description
Eicken Trocar
The Eicken trocar punctures the maxillary sinus for washout or sampling. Its working length of 105 mm reaches the sinus wall through the nose.
Three diameters
You can order 1.8, 2.0 or 3.0 mm. Furthermore, the finer sizes cause less discomfort. Meanwhile, 3.0 mm allows quicker flushing of thick secretions.
How the Eicken trocar works
The sharp stylet pierces the thin bone under the turbinate. Then the stylet is withdrawn. Afterwards, the cannula remains for irrigation.
Clinical use
ENT surgeons use it in chronic sinusitis and to collect samples. Besides, it suits both clinic and theatre. Typically it pairs with a large syringe.
Comparing patterns
The Lichtwitz pattern offers similar diameters. In contrast, the Eicken pattern adds a 3.0 mm option. Thus, it covers thicker secretions too.
Patient comfort
Apply topical anaesthetic first and wait for it to work. Then insert slowly and steadily. Finally, irrigate with warm saline.
Eicken trocar options
- 1.8, 2.0 and 3.0 mm diameters
- 105 mm working length
- Stylet and cannula
Reprocessing
Pull the stylet free of the cannula. Run water through the tube and scrub the lumen. Let both pieces dry, then keep them as a pair.
Delivery essentials
The protection covering the trocar spans three years against manufacturing defects from delivery. Every trocar has a personal once-over at our Atlanta office before dispatch. Many buyers also look at our Lichtwitz trocar. Steel in surgical instruments falls under a standard, namely ASTM F899. Other patterns wait in our general instruments catalog. The help page covers delivery and returns. Many clinics stock a spare trocar in case one is out for service.
