Description
Lichtwitz Trocar
The Lichtwitz trocar punctures the maxillary sinus through the nose. Once the point passes, the cannula allows washout or sampling.
Two diameters
Choose 1.6 mm or 1.8 mm. Also, the finer one causes less trauma. Meanwhile, the 1.8 mm allows faster irrigation.
How the Lichtwitz trocar works
A sharp stylet pierces the thin wall under the inferior turbinate. Then the stylet comes out. Afterwards, the cannula stays in place for washout.
Where it is used
ENT surgeons use it for diagnostic and therapeutic antral puncture. It also helps collect samples for culture. Usually it pairs with a syringe or irrigation set.
Safety notes
Aim the point toward the outer canthus of the eye. Press steadily rather than forcing. Then confirm position before flushing.
Aftercare for the patient
After washout, the small puncture usually closes on its own. Still, advise the patient to avoid blowing the nose hard for a day. Meanwhile, send any sample for culture straight away.
Lichtwitz trocar options
- 1.6 mm or 1.8 mm diameter
- Sharp stylet with hollow cannula
- Luer-style hub
Reprocessing
Separate the stylet from the cannula. Flush and brush the bore, then dry. Store the parts together in a protective tray.
Buying your trocar
Before it leaves us, a person in Atlanta studies the Lichtwitz pattern under good light. Your protection on this trocar spans three years against manufacturing defects beyond our checks. FDA listings include ASTM F899 for medical-grade stainless steel. Think about adding our Eicken trocar. Smaller theaters stock a spare trocar for back-to-back cases. Extra designs live in our general surgical category. The buyer FAQ covers typical order queries. Want a bulk price? Email our team and we will reply.
For use by trained teams. Gallery shots are a guide only, while the steel includes some nickel; see our care page. See the delivery page for dispatch times.
