Description
Dura Dissector
This dura dissector is a general-pattern tool for neurosurgery. Surgeons slide it between bone and dura, and then free the membrane before any cutting starts.
A general-purpose dissector
Named patterns such as Penfield or Frazier each have a following. However, many trays also carry a plain the dissector for routine work. It lifts the dura, sweeps it back and checks that the plane is clear.
The 23 cm size
We offer this dissector in a 23 cm length. That size sits between the short and long patterns in our range. As a result, it works well for both cranial and spinal cases. Ask us for tip details if you need them.
When to reach for it
After a burr hole, for example, the surgeon frees the dura around the edge. Then the craniotome or rongeur can cut safely. In spinal work, the dissector clears the dura from under the lamina in a similar way.
Adding it to your tray
Because dissectors see constant use, many teams stock two. In addition, a mix of lengths lets the surgeon switch as the field deepens. This 23 cm dissector fills the middle of that range.
Caring for your dura dissector
Clean the tip and handle soon after surgery with a soft brush. Rinse away all detergent, then dry the dissector completely. Finally, sterilize it and store it where the tip will not knock against heavier tools.
