Description
Double Ended Cement Spatula, Orthodontic
Banding needs cement that is mixed well and loaded fast. This orthodontic cement spatula has two working ends on one handle. So you can mix on the pad and then place cement in the band with the same tool.
A Blade at Each End of the Spatula
The spatula has a blade at each end. The catalogue does not list the exact sizes, so check the photo to see each blade. In general, one end suits mixing and the other suits loading, but you can use them as you like.
Mixing Band Cement
Dispense the powder and liquid on a pad or glass slab. Then fold them together with smooth strokes. Work quickly, because most band cements give you a short working time. Also spread the mix thin as you go, since that helps it blend evenly.
Loading the Band
Once the cement is ready, load the band right away. Here is a quick order of work:
- Hold the band with the tooth side up.
- Coat the inner wall with a thin, even layer.
- Pass the band to the seating tool without delay.
Clean Up Before It Sets
Set cement is hard to scrape off steel. For that reason, wipe both blades with a damp gauze as soon as the band is in. Then rinse the spatula before the next step of the visit. In practice, this one habit keeps the blades smooth for years.
Why Steel Over Plastic
A plastic spatula can flex and stain. A steel orthodontic cement spatula, by contrast, holds its edge and cleans up well. It also goes through steam sterilization with your other tools, so you do not need a separate disposable.
Spatula Order Notes and Coverage
We had the spatula made to our spec, and a reviewer in the United States checked it. Both blades are stainless steel to the ASTM F899 standard. If it proves faulty from day one, this spatula has three years against manufacturing defects on our account. Expect it non-sterile; a wash plus a sterilizer run gets it set for each new case. Pair it with our autoclavable band seater, view the orthodontic range, or read the Intrace FAQ.
