The DeBakey aneurysm clamp gives long reach for open aortic aneurysm repair. It comes in six lengths, starting at 26 cm and running to 33 cm.

Six long sizes

Choose 26, 27, 28, 30, 31 or 33 cm. So the clamp can reach aortic segments that sit well below the incision. The range covers both average and very large patients.

Controlling the aorta

Before opening the sac, surgeons clamp healthy aorta on both sides of it. As a result, they gain a still field for placing the graft. Meanwhile, the atraumatic jaws spare the tissue they compress.

Why so long

The abdominal aorta often lies deep behind bowel and other structures. Therefore, a long clamp keeps the surgeon’s hand well clear of the wound. That also leaves room for retractors and suction.

Tray planning

Most aortic sets hold two or three of these lengths. In addition, this clamp pairs well with shorter aortic clamps for the distal end. That combination covers the usual range of approaches.

Cleaning DeBakey aneurysm clamp

Extra-long clamps need trays and baskets that fit them without flexing. Start by flushing the jaws, then process the clamp with the jaws apart. Before storage, dry it fully and check that the tips still touch.
