A Dale vascular clamp gives atraumatic control of peripheral arteries and veins. It comes in 17, 17.5 and 18.5 cm, so small steps in reach are easy.

Peripheral focus

Peripheral vessels tend to run smaller and closer to the surface than central ones. Because of this, a mid-length clamp often feels most natural. Also, atraumatic jaws suit the thin walls common in these vessels.

Three close lengths

The sizes sit only half a centimeter to a centimeter apart. So surgeons can fine-tune reach to their hand and the exposure. Then the team keeps the favorite length at the front of the tray.

Controlling flow during repair

Surgeons place the clamp to stop flow above or below the site they are repairing. Next, they complete the work in a dry field. Finally, they release the jaws and check that flow returns.

Choosing between Dale and Martin

Both patterns serve peripheral work with atraumatic jaws. However, the Dale vascular clamp covers a tighter length range, from 17 to 18.5 cm. By contrast, the Martin range spans 16 to 20 cm.

Cleaning Dale vascular clamp

Wash off blood promptly, paying close attention to the jaw surfaces. Next, open and close the clamp several times to confirm smooth action. Hang or lay it open so the jaws do not stay under pressure between cases.
