Description
Cusco Suisse Vaginal Speculum
The Cusco Suisse speculum is the Swiss pattern of the familiar duckbill design. Its narrower blades suit a smaller opening, and a side screw holds them apart.
Narrower blades
Compared with the standard Cusco, these blades take up less width. So they fit where a full-width model feels tight for the patient. Also, the duckbill shape still opens a clear path to the cervix.
Side screw
Once you open the blades, turn the side screw to hold them in place. Then your hands stay free for the swab, brush or instrument. Next, release the screw before you withdraw the speculum.
Three blade sizes
Sizes run 80 x 22, 100 x 25 and 105 x 27 mm. For each pair, read length first and width second. Therefore, pick length for depth and width for comfort and exposure.
Where it fits
Many clinics keep a Cusco Suisse speculum beside wider models in the exam room. For example, it gives another option when standard blades feel too broad. However, choose the full Cusco when you need more width.
Cleaning Cusco Suisse speculum
Loosen the side screw fully and open the blades before washing. Next, brush the screw thread, since residue settles there after each use. Then dry the instrument and store it with the screw backed off.
