Description
Crown Scissors, 12 cm
Preformed metal crowns rarely fit straight from the box. These crown scissors let you shorten and shape the gingival edge before you crimp it. At 12 cm overall, they stay small enough to work close to the model or the patient. Our catalogue lists four variants on this page: Plain Straight, Plain Curved, Serrated Straight and Serrated Curved.
Plain Edges Versus Serrated Edges
A plain blade leaves a clean, smooth cut line. That suits final trimming, when you want a margin you can polish quickly. Serrated blades, by contrast, have fine teeth along the edge. They grip thin metal so it does not slide forward as the blades close. Many assistants therefore use serrated scissors for the first rough cut, then switch to a plain pair to finish.
Following a Curved Crown Margin
Straight blades give the most direct cut. They work well for removing excess height or cutting a band to length. When the margin must follow a scalloped contour, though, curved blades track the curve with less wrist rotation. For example, trimming the cervical edge of a stainless steel crown for a primary molar is easier with the curved pattern.
What These Scissors Should Not Cut
Keep them for crown forms, orthodontic bands and matrix material. Heavy wire or hardened alloys will dull the edges early. In addition, avoid using the tips as a lever, because the fine points can spring out of alignment.
Checked in the U.S., Shipped Ready to Process
We inspect each pair in the United States for blade closure and smooth action. They are delivered non-sterile, so clean and autoclave them before use. Intrace USA stands behind both blade styles for three years against manufacturing defects.
These scissors use stainless steel as described in ASTM F899. Find related tools in diagnostic, periodontal and restorative instruments. To contour the trimmed edge, add crown pliers, and see our FAQs for help with orders.
