The Cottle retractor is a hand retractor for nasal surgery. Surgeons and assistants use it to hold the nostril and vestibule open for septoplasty and rhinoplasty.

Named after Maurice Cottle

Maurice Cottle shaped modern septal surgery, and many nasal tools carry his name. This retractor belongs to that group. It gives the team a simple way to open the view while the surgeon works inside the nose.

Three lengths

You can choose 14 cm, 15 cm or 16 cm. The lengths differ only slightly, so the choice mostly comes down to hand size and habit. However, the 16 cm version gives a little more room between the fingers and the face.

During a septal case

First, the surgeon makes an incision inside the nostril. Next, the assistant uses a retractor to hold the edge back while elevators lift the lining. Then the retractor stays in place as the surgeon removes or reshapes cartilage.

Choosing a length

If your current retractors feel short, go up a size. On the other hand, a smaller hand often prefers 14 cm. Please ask us for further dimensions, such as blade width, before you order.

Caring for your Cottle retractor

Wipe off blood and mucus before they dry. Then wash the retractor with a neutral pH detergent and a soft brush. Finally, dry it and sterilize it according to your facility routine.
