Macintosh Laryngoscope System

The Macintosh laryngoscope uses a curved blade to view the larynx. Anesthesiologists, emergency teams and ENT surgeons use it for intubation and airway assessment.

The curved blade

Sir Robert Macintosh introduced the curved blade in 1943. Today, it is one of the most widely used blade shapes. The curve follows the tongue on its way to the base of the epiglottis.

Size groups

We list single blades by patient group: Babies, Children, Adolescents, Women and Men. So you can match each blade to the patients your unit sees. If you need exact blade lengths, ask us before ordering.

Seven options

Beyond single blades, Macintosh buyers may take a full set of four or a smaller set of three. That gives seven options overall. Then, if you need it, we can confirm what each set includes.

Planning your blades

A general adult unit may use mainly the two largest sizes, because most of its patients are adults. Meanwhile, a pediatric unit needs the smaller sizes on hand. Therefore, many departments mix a set with extra single blades.

Caring for your Macintosh blades

Clean each blade after use according to your hospital’s airway equipment rules. Also look for damage along the edges. Dry the blade and reprocess it before returning it to stock.
