Cooley Rib Spreader

The Cooley rib spreader opens the chest wall for thoracic and cardiac surgery. Four sizes run from newborn to adult, in aluminum or stainless steel.

Newborn and pediatric

The newborn size measures B12, H16 and C95 mm. Pediatric sizes follow at B15 H30 C140 and B21 H44 C150 mm. So each small size sits only a short step from the next.

Adult size

The adult model measures B35, H50 and C200 mm. As a result, it gives a wide opening for full-size chests. It also carries the deepest blades in the range.

Reading the numbers

B stands for blade width and H for blade depth. Meanwhile, C gives the spread the frame can reach. Then compare C with the opening your approach requires.

Aluminum or stainless

Choose aluminum when you want a lighter Cooley rib spreader on the chest. Alternatively, stainless steel suits teams who prefer a heavier feel. Both share identical dimensions.

Care of Cooley rib spreader

Open the spreader to full span before cleaning so the brush reaches every surface. Then rinse, dry and check that it opens and closes smoothly. Finally, store it partly open so no moisture sits trapped inside.
