Description
Collin Vaginal Speculum
The Collin vaginal speculum is a self-retaining bivalve pattern. Once you open the blades, they stay apart without a hand on the instrument.
Bivalve pattern
Two blades part to hold the vaginal walls back on either side. So you get a direct view of the cervix. Also, the self-retaining action frees both hands for the next step of the procedure.
Blade sizes
The small option measures 85 x 30 mm. Meanwhile, the 100 x 35 mm size sits in the middle of the range. Then the 110 x 40 mm size gives the longest and widest blades of the three.
Where it fits
Gynecology theaters and clinics use it for examination and minor procedures. Because it stays open alone, an assistant can focus on other tasks. As a result, it suits busy lists with limited staff.
Choosing a size
Match blade length to the depth you need to reach. However, width decides how far the walls move apart. Therefore, many departments stock the Collin vaginal speculum in all three sizes.
Looking after Collin vaginal speculum
Open the instrument fully so water reaches every inner surface. Then brush the blades and the area where they meet, and rinse off all detergent. Also, dry it well and inspect the blade tips for burrs or marks before packing.
