Description
Cobb Gouge Handle From Artificial Wood
The Cobb gouge is a spinal pattern with a hollow blade and an artificial wood handle. John Cobb, known for scoliosis care, lends the name to this design.
Four versions
The Standard pattern comes straight or curved. In addition, there is a Strong curved version and a Slide Double curved version. Ask us if you need help matching a version to your technique.
What the handle adds
The full handle gives a firm grip even when gloves are slick. Therefore small corrections at the tip come easily while a mallet drives it. That control matters close to the spinal canal.
Using the Cobb gouge
Spine teams use it to decorticate laminae and facets before fusion. They also use it to gather local bone graft. Curved versions, meanwhile, reach under bony ledges with ease. As a result, one handled gouge covers several steps of the same case.
Choosing a version
The Standard pattern suits routine decortication. Meanwhile, the Strong version adds stiffness for dense bone. If you are unsure which suits your technique, ask us and we will explain the differences we list.

Cleaning the Cobb pattern
Brush the hollow and the handle seam soon after surgery. After rinsing, let it dry completely. Look over both the edge and the handle before each reprocessing cycle.
