Description
Zielke Bone Gouges Handle From Artificial Wood
The Zielke bone gouge is a narrow hollow blade on an artificial wood handle. Spine surgeons know the name from Klaus Zielke, who worked on scoliosis correction.
A narrow, deep reach
The slim blade fits between bony landmarks along the spine. So it can clear bone or cartilage where a wide gouge would not fit. Meanwhile, the handle keeps the tool steady during these fine moves. That steadiness matters when the dura lies only millimeters away.
Two widths
It comes 5 mm or 9 mm wide. The 5 mm version suits tight gaps, such as a facet joint. However, the 9 mm blade removes more bone with each pass, so it saves time on larger surfaces.
Uses of the Zielke bone gouge
Teams use it to prepare fusion surfaces and remove small amounts of bone. It also helps with graft work elsewhere in the skeleton. For broader areas, therefore, many surgeons pair it with a Cobb gouge.
Fitting into the spine tray
Spine trays already hold many long tools, so space matters. Because this gouge is slim, it slots in beside Cobb and Hibbs patterns. In short, it adds reach without crowding the set.

Cleaning tips
Flush the hollow and the handle seam right after the case. Next, brush, rinse and dry. Store the gouge with the tip guarded.
Shipping basics
The written warranty protecting the Zielke pattern spans three years against manufacturing defects from delivery. Before it ships, a colleague in Atlanta studies the Zielke pattern under good light. Many surgical teams stock one per tray for back-to-back cases. Our FAQ section handles shipping and refunds. We will happily quote multiples for your clinic. The alloy in surgical tools has its own standard, namely ASTM F899. Explore our complete orthopedics catalog for the rest of the set. You might pair it with the Cobb gouge.
