Description
Chandler Iris Forceps
The Chandler iris forceps is a short 7cm forceps for gentle handling of iris tissue. It comes with serrated or smooth jaws. Neither version has teeth, so the grip spreads over a small area instead of piercing the tissue. That makes it a gentle choice for a soft, fragile layer.
Chandler serrated jaws
Serrations add fine ridges to the inner faces of the jaws. These ridges give more hold on slick tissue. So the serrated version suits cases where the iris tends to slip as you work.
Chandler smooth jaws
Smooth jaws grip by friction alone. They leave less mark, so they are kind to fragile tissue. In practice, many surgeons choose them for very thin iris or for handling material they do not want to tear.
Why no teeth
Teeth pierce tissue to hold it. That is fine for tough layers. However, the iris is soft and bleeds easily, so a toothless grip often makes more sense here.
Chandler pattern tasks
- Grasping iris for a small iridectomy
- Holding tissue gently inside the eye
- Lifting delicate membranes
- General fine work in anterior segment cases
Chandler jaw cleaning
Clean the jaws soon after use, since serrations can trap matter. Then dry the forceps and confirm the tips meet evenly. If they do not, set it aside for service, because uneven tips pinch at one point and can tear. Finally, keep it in a slot or tray where the tips stay safe.
Chandler forceps reach you non-sterile. Run them through cleaning and sterilization, and they serve case after case. Each jaw style is cut from stainless meeting ASTM F899. Chandler buyers also get Chandler cover for three years against manufacturing defects; Chandler jaws of either style count.
