Description
Stevens Iris Forceps
The Stevens iris forceps is a 10cm fine forceps with four set-ups. Choose curved or straight, then plain tips or 1×2 teeth. It handles iris and other delicate tissue, and the right mix depends on how you reach and how firm a hold you need.
Teeth or plain
Plain tips hold without piercing, so they suit thin or fragile tissue. By contrast, 1×2 teeth bite into tissue and keep it from sliding. Choose teeth for firmer layers or when you need a sure hold to cut beside the tips.
Curved or straight shaft
Straight tips point where the handle points, so aiming feels natural. Also, they are easy to clean. Curved tips bend off the line of the handle. That keeps your fingers out of your view and helps you reach around the globe.
A 10cm reach
The 10cm length suits a pen grip with the hand resting on the brow or drape. It gives you more room than a 7cm pattern. Still, it stays light and quick to turn. Because of this, it suits long cases.
Ways to use the four versions
- Straight plain for gentle iris handling
- Straight toothed for a firm grasp on a flap
- Curved plain for delicate reach around the globe
- Curved toothed for holding tissue at an angle
Stevens storage and checks
Rinse the forceps soon after use. Next, check that the tips meet and that the teeth, if any, have not bent. Also keep it on a rack so the fine tips do not touch other steel.
The Stevens set ships non-sterile. Once cleaned and sterilized, each piece is ready to reuse. We hold all four Stevens versions to stainless per ASTM F899. Every version comes with Stevens protection for three years against manufacturing defects; Stevens tips count too.
