Description
Castroviejo Needle Holder, 14 cm Straight
This Castroviejo 14 cm needle holder has straight jaws and a spring handle. It is a single, fixed model, so there are no options to choose. Surgeons use it to grip small needles during fine closure, for example in corneal or conjunctival work.
Why 14 cm is common
At 14 cm, the tool rests in the web of the hand while the tips stay close to the field. Because of this balance, many eye surgeons treat it as their everyday length. It also travels well between the clinic tray and the theatre.
Holding it like a pen
You hold the flat handles between thumb and fingers. Then a light press closes the jaws on the needle. Next, a roll of the fingers turns the needle through the tissue. Finally, a release lets the spring open the jaws again.
What straight jaws offer
- A direct line from fingers to needle
- Easy loading of the needle at a right angle
- Good for surface closure in clear view
- Simple to inspect and clean
When to pick another model
If you work under a microscope and want the hand out of view, a curved jaw may suit you better. Likewise, very large needles call for a stronger jaw. In those cases, a different Castroviejo 14 cm needle holder will not help, so see our multi-size listing instead.
Care after each case
Rinse the jaws soon after use, then brush the grooves with a soft brush. Also dry the spring area fully, since water can sit there. Before sterilization, check that the tips still meet evenly.
Expect it to arrive non-sterile; after cleaning and a sterilization cycle it goes back into service. Its steel is a surgical stainless grade per ASTM F899. Our warranty gives this holder three years against manufacturing defects. For curved, strong and 18 cm versions, open the 13 to 18 cm Castroviejo page. Our ophthalmic range and the needle holder section list more choices, and the help page answers common questions.
