Description
Castroviejo Spatula
The Castroviejo spatula is a 10 cm tool with a thin, flat blade for delicate work inside the front of the eye. It comes in six blade sizes, from a fine 0.50 mm to a broader 1.5 x 15.0 mm. That range lets you match the blade to the space.
Six Castroviejo blade options
We offer 0.50 mm, 0.75 mm and 1.00 mm blades, plus two longer ones at 0.8 x 15.0 mm and 1.5 x 15.0 mm. There is also a Standard blade. Check the photos to compare shapes before you choose.
Matching blade width to the task
Narrow blades slip through small ports and suit fine sweeps of the angle or iris. Wider blades, by contrast, move more tissue and feel firmer. The 15 mm blades add reach, so they help when the target sits farther in.
Jobs a flat spatula handles
Common uses:
- Sweeping the angle or freeing iris
- Repositioning iris tissue after it prolapses
- Lifting or guiding a lens edge
- Clearing strands near a wound
Starting with one or two sizes
If you are new to this range, start small. A 0.75 mm blade covers many fine tasks, while a 1.00 mm blade adds a little body. Then add a long blade later if your cases need reach.
Tray planning with several blades
If you buy more than one size, label each on the tray map. Thin blades bend easily, so keep them in their own slots. Also check each tip after cleaning, since a bent blade sweeps unevenly.
Ordering your blade size
All six Castroviejo blade sizes leave us unsterile; clean and sterilize your chosen blade, and the spatula is ready to reuse on later anterior chamber cases. These flat blades use stainless that meets ASTM F899. We warrant each Castroviejo spatula, whatever the blade, for three years against manufacturing defects.
