Bracket Positioning Gauges
Our bracket positioning gauges help you place each bracket at a planned height as you bond. You rest the gauge on the tooth, then line the bracket up against it. As a result, heights stay consistent from tooth to tooth.
Two slot sizes, two gauges
Our catalogue lists two versions. The .022″ Slot gauge suits brackets with a .022″ slot. The .018″ Slot gauge suits brackets with a .018″ slot. So the choice is simple: match the gauge to the slot size of the brackets you use. You can buy each option on its own, which helps if your office works with both systems.
Height control during bonding
Small height errors add up later. For example, a bracket set too high or too low can call for extra wire bends at finishing. A gauge gives you a fixed reference instead of a visual guess. Then your archwire has a cleaner path from the start.
Using the gauge step by step
- First, isolate and prepare the tooth as usual.
- Next, place the bracket loosely in its paste.
- Then seat the gauge and nudge the bracket to the mark.
- Finally, check the height again before you cure.
Pairing gauge and tweezers
Most clinicians hold the bracket with tweezers while the gauge sets the height. Therefore it pays to keep both on the same tray. Also keep the gauge for each slot size in its own spot, so the right one is always to hand.
Keeping the reference edges true
A gauge is only as good as its edges. So check them for nicks after each cycle, and avoid dropping the gauge on a hard floor. In addition, store it where heavier tools cannot press on it.
A gauge for either slot reaches your office non-sterile, but each one serves again after you wash and sterilize it between patients. Gauge makers work to our specification, then we review every piece on arrival in the United States. Each gauge body is a stainless alloy chosen to meet ASTM F899. Whichever slot size you pick, the gauge includes three years against manufacturing defects as standard. To round out the bonding tray, look through more orthodontic instruments, add the Bracket Placing Tweezers, or read the Intrace FAQ.
Only dental professionals should use these gauges. Our sterilizing advice and parcel options are worth a read first.
