Description
Bone Wire Guides
The bone wire guide leads cerclage wire around a bone. Its curved shape passes close to the bone surface, which limits soft-tissue stripping.
How it works
The surgeon passes the curved guide around the bone. Then the wire threads through the guide. Finally, the guide withdraws, leaving the wire in place.
Two sizes
The guide comes in 45 mm and 70 mm sizes. Additionally, these relate to the curve and the bone it fits. Smaller bones suit the 45 mm guide, while larger ones suit 70 mm.
Who uses a bone wire guide
Trauma surgeons use it for cerclage of femoral and humeral fractures. Also, it helps in periprosthetic fracture fixation. Also, hip revision teams use it often.
Keeping close to bone
Hug the bone surface as you pass the guide. Consequently, vessels and nerves stay out of the path. Go slowly at the back of the bone.
Pairing with a tightener
After passing the wire, a wire tightener tensions it. Therefore many sets carry both. Together, they complete the cerclage.
Choosing between sizes
Measure the bone diameter roughly before choosing. Then pick the guide whose curve clears it with a little room. As a result, the guide passes without levering against bone.

Passer care
Push a fine brush through the wire channel and rinse. Allow it to dry fully. A burr on the tip can snag tissue, so check it.
When you check out
Ahead of dispatch, someone in Atlanta assesses each wire guide by eye. The cover protecting every wire guide covers three years against manufacturing defects in all cases. Further options appear in the orthopedic range. For the basics of instrument steels, go to ASTM F899. For quick answers, try the order FAQ. We also check sizes for repeat orders. A second wire guide in stores keeps lists moving. Compare it with our Demel wire guide.
