Description
Demel Bone Wire Guide
The Demel wire guide leads cerclage wire around bone during fracture fixation. It comes as a 28 cm version and in three figures.
Four options
The 28 cm version suits general use. Meanwhile, figures 1, 2 and 3 offer different curves. Therefore you can match the guide to the bone size.
Passing the wire
The curved end passes behind the bone. Then the wire feeds through and the guide comes back out. As a result, the wire encircles the bone with little dissection.
Who uses the Demel wire guide
Trauma and hip surgeons use it for cerclage wiring. Also, periprosthetic fracture repair relies on it. It suits humeral fractures too.
Choosing a figure
Smaller curves suit slimmer bones such as the humerus. However, larger curves suit the femur. Ask us if you need help choosing.
Gentle passage
Keep the tip in contact with bone. Consequently, soft tissue behind the bone stays safe. Go slowly in tight spots.
Comparing wire guides
Simple curved guides suit routine cerclage. In contrast, the Demel figures offer graded curves for different bone sizes. Therefore some surgeons keep two or three figures.

Channel care
Rinse the passing channel straight after use. Dry it with air or a lint-free cloth. Replace a guide whose tip has bent.
Choosing with confidence
Any wire guide passes a final check in Atlanta ahead of shipping. The cover for this wire guide runs three years against manufacturing defects by default. Often bought with it is our curved bone wire guide. Larger clinics keep a backup wire guide to avoid delays. To read about the steel in surgical tools, see ASTM F899.
