Description
Böhler Bone Rongeurs, Straight
These Böhler bone rongeurs have narrow, straight jaws on a 16 cm body, about 6.75 inches. A double joint near the jaws adds leverage. So each bite takes bone cleanly, even when it is dense.
The double joint
Two pivots sit between the handles and the jaws. Therefore, the same hand pressure gives a stronger bite than a single-hinge rongeur. That helps on thick cortical bone, where a simple tool tires the hand.
Straight and narrow
The straight jaws bite along the line of the handles. In addition, their narrow shape fits into small spaces between teeth or roots. Together, these make the Böhler a precise choice for focused bone removal.
Common tasks
- Reducing dense bone around roots
- Trimming ridges and bony spurs
- Shaping bone during implant preparation
- Small-bone work in maxillofacial cases
Taking controlled bites
Because of the extra leverage, start with light pressure and build up. Then clear each chip before the next bite. Keep the jaws in line with the cut, rather than twisting them.
Straight Böhler or a curved pattern
The straight Böhler bone rongeurs suit work where you can line up the tool with the cut. If the site needs you to reach around a curve, a curved pattern is easier. So many surgeons keep one of each and switch as the case demands.
Joint care
Debris collects at both pivots. So brush each one after use, rinse well, and dry. Next, lubricate the joints so the action stays smooth.
The rongeur comes non-sterile and is designed for repeated reprocessing. We make it from stainless steel matching ASTM F899. Every straight Böhler carries three years against manufacturing defects, both joints included. If you want a curved, slim jaw, compare the Ruskin-Mini rongeurs.
