Boerma obstetrical forceps are a short 28 cm pattern for outlet delivery. Clinicians use them once the fetal head has reached the pelvic floor.

Outlet delivery

Outlet forceps assist when the fetal scalp already shows at the introitus between contractions. So the operator needs only a short instrument and modest traction to complete the birth. Also, short blades keep the application simple, direct and quick to perform.

A short pattern

At 28 cm, this pair stays compact in the hand. Therefore, it fits neatly on a standard delivery tray next to scissors and clamps. Meanwhile, longer patterns such as Simpson-Braun serve a head at a higher station.
