Description
Wrigley Obstetrical (Midwifery) Forceps
Wrigley forceps are short, light outlet forceps of 28 cm. Obstetricians use them for low or outlet delivery and at cesarean section.
Low and outlet delivery
When the head sits low in the pelvis, modest traction usually suffices. So a short, light instrument suits the task well. Also, the compact size makes blade application straightforward.
At cesarean section
Sometimes the head sits deep in the pelvis at cesarean section. Then the surgeon may slide one blade beneath it to lift it into the incision. As a result, delivery through the uterine opening becomes easier.
Light and compact
Because this pattern stays light, it sits comfortably in the hand. Meanwhile, the 28 cm length keeps it easy to store in a drawer or tray. In addition, it takes little space on a cesarean tray.
Wrigley or Boerma
Both are short outlet patterns at 28 cm. However, many cesarean trays carry Wrigley forceps for lifting the head. So choose by habit and training on your unit.
Reprocessing Wrigley forceps
Keep the blades together through reprocessing so they stay a matched pair. Next, scrub the inner blade surfaces gently and rinse thoroughly. Then dry and inspect them for any rough spots before sterilization.
