Description
Blumenthal Bone Rongeur Forceps
The Blumenthal orthopedic rongeur comes with three head angles. Choose curved, 45 degree or 90 degree jaws to reach bone that faces away from you.
Angles for access
A straight rongeur only reaches bone in front of it. By contrast, an angled head reaches around corners and under ledges. Therefore the right angle saves time and effort.
Three options
The curved version gives a gentle sweep. Meanwhile, the 45 degree head reaches moderate angles. The 90 degree head reaches the hardest corners.
Who uses the Blumenthal orthopedic rongeur
Oral surgeons shape bone around molars and ridges. Also, ankle and wrist surgery uses the angled heads. It suits facial work too.
Choosing an angle
If unsure, start with the curved version. Then add the 45 or 90 degree heads for awkward spots. Many surgeons keep all three.
Visibility
Angled jaws also keep the surgeon’s hand out of the line of sight. Consequently, the target stays visible during each bite. That benefit alone justifies an angled rongeur in many cases.

Cleaning angled heads
Angled cups hide debris in their corners, so use a small brush from several directions. Dry well. Lubricate the joint before packing.
After you check out
Before we pack it, someone in Atlanta inspects the Blumenthal rongeur by hand. In the rare case the rongeur shows a workmanship flaw, you have three years against manufacturing defects. The order FAQ deals with orders, shipping and returns. Smaller departments keep a backup rongeur to cover reprocessing time. For a close alternative, explore the Bane rongeur. Companion items live in the orthopedic instrument list. For details on surgical alloys, go to ASTM F899. We will happily check stock by email.
Professional use only. Refunds are on our returns and refunds page. The cleaning guide explains image variation plus nickel content.
