Description
Bending Iron For Large Plates (LIGHT WEIGHT)
The lightweight plate bending iron contours large bone plates. Surgeons usually use two irons together, one on each side of the bend.
How bending irons work
Each iron has slots that grip the plate. Therefore two irons placed apart can bend or twist the plate between them. Additionally, the surgeon controls the shape by hand.
Lightweight version
This version is lighter than the solid iron. As a result, it is easier to handle on the back table. Furthermore, it suits most large plates.
Who uses a lightweight plate bending iron
Trauma surgeons use it to contour femur, tibia and humerus plates. Also, it helps with twisting plates for spiral fractures. Scrub staff often assist.
Twisting and bending
Grip the plate with both irons a little apart. Then bend or twist gradually. Check the shape against the bone often.
Light or solid
The light iron reduces fatigue. However, the solid iron gives more leverage for stiff plates. Besides, many sets carry both.
