Description
Oldberg Laminectomy Rongeur, Shaft
The Oldberg laminectomy rongeur removes disc material and small pieces of bone. Its long shaft lets spine surgeons reach deep into the disc space or canal.
A long-reach rongeur
Deep spinal work leaves little room for the hand. So the long shaft keeps the jaws at the target while the handle stays outside. Each closing of the jaws takes out a small bite.
Dimensions
We list the Oldberg at 25 cm overall with a 180 mm shaft. That combination suits lumbar disc surgery and other deep work. For jaw dimensions, please contact us before you order.
When surgeons use it
After the annulus opens, the surgeon passes the rongeur into the disc space. Then they grasp and pull out loose disc fragments. They repeat this until the space looks clear.
Choosing a shaft rongeur
Think first about the depth of your usual approach. For example, a heavier patient may call for longer reach. If you need more length, the Landolt pattern offers a longer shaft.
Caring for your Oldberg laminectomy rongeur
Open the jaws and flush out tissue as soon as the case ends. Next, brush the joint and jaw area with neutral detergent. Rinse, dry thoroughly, lubricate the joint and then sterilize it.
