Description
Bauer Retractor
The Bauer retractor holds soft tissue away from the jaw in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Its narrow 16 mm blade fits tight spaces in the back of the mouth.
Narrow blade
The 16 mm width slips into small spaces near the ramus. As a result, it leaves room for drills and saws. Meanwhile, it still holds the tissue firmly.
Length of the Bauer retractor
It measures 20 cm overall. Also, that reaches the back teeth and ramus. In addition, it keeps the handle clear of the lips.
Fiber optic option
Some teams order it with a fiber optic carrier fitted. Consequently, light reaches the bottom of the field. Alternatively, the plain version works with a headlight.
Typical procedures
Ramus osteotomies, third molar surgery and fracture repair all use it. For example, it holds the cheek and tongue tissue aside during bone cuts.
Handling
Place the blade against the bone, under the soft tissue. Then pull gently and evenly. Also, protect the lip corner with a moist gauze.
