The Barnhill adenoid curette scrapes adenoid tissue from behind the nose. ENT surgeons choose it during adenoidectomy to clear the nasopharynx.

Clearing the nasopharynx

Enlarged adenoids can block breathing through the nose. So the surgeon sweeps the curette along the back wall of the nasopharynx. The blade then lifts the tissue away in one or two passes.

Blade sizes

We offer blades of 13, 15, 17 and 19 mm. The 13 mm blade suits small children. In contrast, the 19 mm blade suits larger patients. The two middle sizes cover most school-age children.

In adenoid surgery

The curette usually works with a mouth gag and suction. For example, the surgeon may retract the palate and then pass the curette behind it. Afterward, a pack may control any bleeding.

Consider the age range you treat most. Then choose two or three blades that cover it. If you already own another pattern, you can match its sizes so the tray stays consistent.

Rinse the curette right after use. Next, scrub the cutting end and the shaft using a nylon brush. Dry it completely before sterilization, and store the blade where it cannot knock against other steel.
