Description
Bangerter Lachrymal Cannula
The Bangerter lacrimal cannula is a fine, blunt tube for flushing the tear ducts. Clinicians fit it to a syringe and pass it through the punctum. We offer two lengths: 40mm and 60mm.
What lacrimal irrigation checks
Tears drain from the eye through small openings in the lids. When a patient has watery eyes, a blocked duct may be the cause. So the clinician gently flushes saline through the system. If the fluid reaches the nose, the path is open.
40mm or 60mm
Both lengths share the same fine, blunt tip. The choice comes down to reach and handling.
- 40mm: a short, steady tool for routine checks.
- 60mm: more length when you want extra reach.
- Keep both if your clinic sees varied cases.
A gentle technique
First, the punctum may need a dilator to open it. Then the cannula slides in along the line of the canal. Because the tip is blunt, it follows the passage instead of piercing it. Never force it, since that can harm the lining.
Spelling and naming
You may see this item spelled lachrymal or lacrimal. Both mean the same thing: related to tears. Our product title keeps the older spelling, while the page uses the common US form.
Cleaning a fine bore
Flush the Bangerter lacrimal cannula with clean water soon after use. Next, push air through to clear any drops. Then dry it and check the hub for wear. A blocked bore will give false results, so test the flow before each use.
Lacrimal cannula ordering
Lacrimal cannulas leave us non-sterile. With proper cleaning and sterilization, each Bangerter cannula serves again and again. Bangerter cannulas carry three years against manufacturing defects in any length. Cannula metal follows ASTM F899. To open the punctum first, see the Fish lachrymal dilator.
