Description
Bangerter Cyclodialysis Spatula
The Bangerter cyclodialysis spatula is a slim, blunt blade for work in the front of the eye. The name comes from an older glaucoma operation. We offer 6.0mm, 10.0mm and 12.0mm sizes.
A spatula, not a knife
A spatula has smooth, blunt edges. So it moves or separates tissue without cutting it. That makes it useful when a sharp blade would cause harm. Surgeons may use a spatula like this to sweep, lift or separate fine tissue.
Choosing your size
Pick the size by how far the spatula needs to reach.
- 6.0mm: short reach for close work.
- 10.0mm: a middle option for many tasks.
- 12.0mm: the longest reach in the range.
Some background on cyclodialysis
This older operation detaches a small part of the ciliary body to create a new drainage path. This once helped lower eye pressure in glaucoma. Today, newer methods are more common. Still, a fine spatula remains handy for other front-of-eye steps.
Handling it well
Hold the handle lightly, like a pen. Then guide the blade with small moves, keeping it in view. If you feel resistance, stop and adjust. Never use force with a spatula inside the eye.
Cleaning and checks
Rinse the blade after use and wipe it with a soft sponge. Next, look along the edges for nicks or bends. A damaged edge can snag tissue. So replace the spatula if you see damage. Finally, store it flat, with the blade covered by a guard.
Spatula order details
Each spatula ships non-sterile; full reprocessing readies it for the next list. Bangerter spatulas include three years against manufacturing defects in every size. Spatula steel meets ASTM F899.
