Description
Castroviejo Cyclodialysis Cannula
The Castroviejo cyclodialysis cannula is a fine, hollow instrument for anterior segment surgery. Its name links it to cyclodialysis, an older glaucoma technique. We offer it in 10mm and 15mm sizes.
What the name tells you
Cyclodialysis separates part of the ciliary body from the sclera. Surgeons once used it more often to treat glaucoma. Today, a fine cannula like this may also help bring fluid into the eye. So it remains a useful item on some trays.
Choosing 10mm or 15mm
The size gives the length of the working part. Choose by how far you need to reach.
- 10mm: shorter reach for close work.
- 15mm: longer reach across the chamber.
- Both: handy if you work on a range of eyes.
Use with a syringe
Most surgeons fit a cannula to a syringe. Then they guide the tip through a small wound. Because the tip is fine, small moves matter. Always follow your own unit’s method for this step.
Flushing the bore
A hollow cannula needs care inside as well as out. First, flush the bore with clean water right after use. Then use a fine wire or brush if your process allows. Finally, dry it and check that fluid flows freely.
Storing it safely
A bent cannula will not work well. So store it straight, in its own slot, with the tip covered. Also, check the hub for cracks before each use.
Ordering the cannula
Cyclodialysis cannulas ship non-sterile, and they are reusable after you clean the bore and sterilize. Castroviejo cannulas come with three years against manufacturing defects built in. Cannula steel meets ASTM F899. You may also want the Bangerter cyclodialysis spatula. Browse our eye instrument range or our help questions.
