Ayer Chalazion Forceps
Use the Ayer chalazion forceps when you need to isolate a chalazion and keep the lid still. The clamp holds the lid in a ring and plate grip. Then you can evert the lid and work on its inner surface. It comes in a 9 cm size.
Isolating the lesion
The ring sits around the swelling on the conjunctival side. Meanwhile, the solid jaw supports the skin. Together they wall off the area, so the cyst stays in view and bleeding stays low.
Working through the Ayer ring
Once the lid turns out, make your cut inside the ring. Next, scoop out the contents with a small curette. Finally, release the clamp slowly and apply pressure to the lid.
Ayer or another lid clamp?
Our chalazion range covers several eponyms. Still, the Ayer is a sound choice when you want a mid-sized 9 cm tool. Compare it with the 10 cm Cauer if you prefer a longer reach. Both work the same way, so the choice comes down to hand size and habit.
Looking after the hinge
The joint is where residue hides. So open the clamp wide during washing, and run a brush through the hinge. Then dry it well, because trapped water can stain steel over time.
- 9 cm overall length
- Ring jaw for the inner lid
- Plate jaw for the skin side
- Steady grip that limits oozing
