Cauer Chalazion Forceps
The Cauer chalazion forceps holds the eyelid firm while you treat a chalazion. It also turns the lid out, so the inner surface faces you. In addition, steady pressure from the clamp helps limit bleeding. We offer it in a single 10 cm length.
Plate and ring at the tip
In the usual chalazion pattern, one jaw is a flat plate and the other is an open ring. So the plate rests on the skin, while the ring frames the lesion on the inner lid. You then work inside the ring with a blade and a curette.
Seating the Cauer on the lid
First, center the ring over the cyst. Next, close the jaws slowly and test the grip. It should feel firm but not crushing. Then rotate the clamp to evert the lid, and steady it with your free hand.
Why a 10 cm shank helps
At 10 cm, the shank keeps your fingers back from the lid. As a result, the other hand has room for the blade and curette. Also, the length sits well in a small minor procedure tray.
- One size: 10 cm overall
- Ring and plate jaws that evert the lid
- Even pressure that helps keep the field dry
- Reusable once cleaned and sterilized
Rinsing the ring after a case
Blood and debris tend to collect inside the ring and at the joint. So rinse the clamp right after the case, then brush both jaws with a soft brush. Finally, open it fully before the steriliser cycle.
Ordering the Cauer clamp
Cauer clamps ship non-sterile, so run yours through the steriliser before its first chalazion. Our Cauer cover lasts three years against manufacturing defects. Cauer jaws use surgical stainless that meets ASTM F899, which keeps each Cauer tough over many cycles. For a sibling pattern, compare the Lambert lid clamp or browse our full eye instrument range.
